The British International Motor Show 2008 today highlights the following:

Mastretta MXT on display at the Motor Show
On view at the British International Motor Show is the Mastretta MXT, the first ever car designed and built in Mexico. It has a 2.0 litre Cosworth engine which is capable of a delivering a top speed of 150mph and from 0 to 60 in less than five seconds.

Constructed from aluminium, the chassis features aircraft style technologies and closed mould techniques sculpt the body from high quality fibreglass. Low weight, structural integrity, safety and design flexibility were the main design parameters for the MXT chassis development.
Prices start from £32,999 and order books are open at Stand N10. “Customers who place orders at the show will be able to register their cars in May of next year,” says company boss, Tom Martin. “The Mastretta MXT on display at ExCeL until 3 August is the penultimate prototype and we should complete VCA testing by October and RHD production, which is limited to 80 cars in the first full year, will start by January.”
Smarter driving from Ford
Ford’s Smart Driving Challenge at the Show has been fully booked every day since Friday. Show-goers can sign up for a smart driving lesson on the Ford stand and improve fuel consumption as a result. Ford Focus ECOnetics are being used by Energy Saving Trust instructors to teach drivers how to deploy smart driving techniques and cut fuel bills by up to 25%.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday instructors were fully booked handling 40 pupils a day. Lessons can be arranged in the sustainability area of the Ford stand, where the blue oval’s ultra frugal ECOnetic diesel range is showcased. Newest addition is the Ford Fiesta ECOnetic, unveiled at the show, with CO2 at 98g/km and fuel economy of 76.3mpg. Instructors and cars are based outside the south hall by the Ford stand and follow a circuit with junctions and obstacles representing an authentic urban drive route. The challenge continues for the remainder of the show.
